Indonesia is a tropical country where coconut trees are very abundant. Indonesia has the largest coconut plantation area in the world with an area of 3.86 million hectares or 31.2% of the total world coconut area of around 12 million hectares.
The benefits of coconut plants lie not only in the flesh of the fruit which can be processed into coconut milk, copra and coconut oil, but all parts of the coconut plant have enormous benefits.
Indonesia is the second largest coconut exporter in the world after the Philippines. In 2014 the contribution of Indonesian coconut exports reached 20.16% of the total world export value of 1.21 billion US dollars
About 98% of the total area of coconut plantations in Indonesia are public owned plantations and the rest 2% are state plantations and private plantations. Coconut productivity in Indonesia is on average 1ton of copra/hectare/year or 45,000 coconut/hectare/year.
